WoW Leveling Guide - Hunter

The Hunter in WoW is one of my favorite classes in any MMO.  It is a truly cool class to play and you can have a lot of fun with it.  To me this character class is the true "Ranger" of the MMO world.  If you are looking to level up a Hunter then this WoW leveling guide will get you started.  For a more in depth leveling guide, including optimal quest routes, and even more in depth Hunter information (since both guides were done with a Hunter), check out my recommended guides.

The Sniper of the Forest

You could call Hunters, the snipers of the forest.  The damage they can do with a bow is amazing, and in many cases can either totally drop your target before it gets to you, or at least have it severely wounded.  With that said, one of the fun things about a Hunter is you can build them to be either ranged, melee, or both.  Whichever your playstyle prefers, and I often like to melee.  When leveling however, I highly recommend you stick to focusing on ranged damage and talents.  It is just more efficient.

Arrows Make the Man

Clothes are important as well, but focus on your bow and arrows first.  Upgrade your arrows every level you are able to.  This will make a huge difference in your leveling speed.  At the higher levels, if you can afford to get thorium arrows, do it.  These arrows can be very costly, but are well worth it.  If gold is a problem, I recommend Valkor's gold guide.  You won't have gold problems anymore after reading that.

Learn a Good Bow Chain

Work out a series of bow attacks that work well for you.  Done well, you can severely pummel your opponent before he closes to melee range.  I like to do Concussive -> Serpent Sting -> Arcane -> to start it off and then just before the target closes to melee range, I hit it with one more Serpent Sting to refresh it.  Work out whats best for you though and keep it up to date as you level.

Marking Your Territory

For the love of Azeroth don't forget to use Hunter's Mark!  I see people getting lazy and not using this all the time.  It only takes a second to hit the button, and the increase to your damage is noticeable.  Use it.  Always!

Shut Your Trap!

Don't forget you have traps.  These can be very effective when used properly, especially when soloing.  The right trap depends on the situation, but when you just want to add some good damage, nothing beats an immolation trap.  Just don't forget these tools are here.

My Precious...

Ahh your pet.  One of the ultra-cool things about being a Hunter is your pet.  But what type of pet is best for fast leveling?  To be fair its a hard question to answer.  I personally prefer a DPS pet, even though the overall consensus says tank pets for soloing.  The reason I like DPS pets is because my targets aren't much of a threat to me anyway, so the DPS pet just helps kill faster -- thus increasing my exp/hour.

This Hunter leveling guide gives you a good overview of the class that should help increase your leveling speed.  If you are looking for a more in depth guide, including optimal quest routes and detailed hunter information, I highly recommend either Brian Kopp's Alliance Leveling Guide, or Joana's Horde Leveling Guide.  Either way, a solid WoW leveling guide will make your game that much more enjoyable.
